Intro: First and foremost, please read our Cancellation Policy. Also, this is technically a "digital download" purchase as my website either needs physical inventory, or its a digital download (a tour is neither). Feel free to ignore download link that will be sent.

Tour Description: Our 2027 Prince Edward Island Tour is a 9 day, 8 night self-supported bike camping trip with a Rest/Beach Day built in to Day 6. Starting and ending in Charlottetown, the route is a counterclockwise loop of this amazing island.

Our most far-flung tour yet! The 2027 Prince Edward Island Tour is a 9-day, 8-night self-supported bike camping trip that makes a big counterclockwise loop around one of Canada’s great cycling destinations. Starting and ending in Charlottetown, we’ll spend the week riding through small coastal towns, farmland, fishing communities and long stretches of classic PEI scenery, with stops in Cavendish, Stanhope, St. Peters, Red Point, Brudenell and Belfast along the way.

Daily mileage stays mostly in the 25–50 mile range, including an unloaded lighthouse loop and a full Rest/Beach Day when we reach the eastern side of the island. This is a big trip, but not a race across PEI—we’ve built it to leave room to actually see the place, camp together, wander around a little, eat some good food and spend nine days getting very far away from our normal lives. New for 2027, and definitely one of the biggest adventures we’ve ever put on the calendar.

  • Why this Tour is Attainable:

    • Most riding days are 25–49 miles, with a built-in rest/beach day

    • Several days are relatively short, giving plenty of time for stops and camp setup

    • PEI’s terrain is generally rolling rather than mountainous

  • Why this Tour is Challenging:

    • 9 days and 8 nights makes this a true multi-day touring commitment

    • Fully self-supported, so you’ll be carrying camping gear throughout the trip

Logistics: Getting to Prince Edward Island from New York City takes a little more planning than most 718 trips, but there are several good options depending on how much time you have and how you want to travel. Remember that PEI is in Canada, so everyone will need a valid passport for the trip.

Flying — NYC to Charlottetown (YYG) Flying is the simplest and fastest option for most riders. Charlottetown Airport (YYG) is a small airport about 5 miles from downtown Charlottetown, and flights from the New York area will generally involve one connection, most commonly through Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa. Charlottetown Airport is approximately an 8 km/5-mile, 15-minute drive from downtown and has taxi and public-transit service into the city.

Driving — NYC to Charlottetown Driving is a very reasonable option if you want to avoid flying with a bicycle, especially if several riders can share a vehicle. The trip is roughly 800 miles and about 15 hours of actual driving from New York City, not including meal stops, fuel stops or time at the U.S.–Canada border. The most straightforward route runs north through New England, crosses into Canada in Maine/New Brunswick and continues across New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island via the Confederation Bridge.

Train + Bus — The Slow-Travel Option It is possible to reach PEI using public transportation, but there is no direct train from New York to Charlottetown. One option is Amtrak's Adirondack from New York Penn Station to Montreal (note it is tricky to bring a bike on that train, please contact me for potential workaround) . From Montreal you would need to continue east using additional rail, air or bus connections into the Maritime provinces and then connect with Maritime Bus for the final leg to Prince Edward Island.

Fly to Halifax + Bus to Charlottetown Another useful option is to fly from New York to Halifax, Nova Scotia, rather than directly to Charlottetown. Halifax is a much larger airport and can sometimes offer better schedules or fares. From Halifax Airport, Maritime Bus provides connections through the Maritime provinces and on to Prince Edward Island. This option takes longer than flying directly to Charlottetown, but it can be a good backup if YYG flights are expensive, inconvenient or difficult to book with a bicycle.

Driving via Nova Scotia + Ferry to PEI For riders who want to turn the trip north into a larger Maritime road trip, another possibility is to drive through New Brunswick into Nova Scotia and take the Northumberland Ferry from Caribou, Nova Scotia to Wood Islands, PEI.

Arriving in Charlottetown Regardless of how you get there, the goal is simply to arrive in Charlottetown with enough time to get yourself and your bike settled before the tour begins. If you are flying, we strongly suggest arriving at least one day before the official start of the trip. That gives you time to retrieve and assemble your bike, replace anything that may have been damaged or forgotten in transit, buy fuel or last-minute supplies, and start the tour without having an airline connection determine whether you make Day 1.

If you are registering for this trip, you are highly encouraged make your travel plans soon thereafter and not wait until a week before the tour.
