Training
Here are some Training Suggestions to get ready for our Tours and Micro-Tours.
Build Your Mileage
-
Start early: For Tours, begin training 3 months before departure
-
For Micro-Tours, begin training 1 month before departure
-
Add 5 to 10 miles or a bit more time to your long ride each week.
-
Work up to riding your tour's average daily distance at least once a week.
-
Practice riding two days in a row to get used to consecutive days in the saddle.
Train on Your Gear
-
Ride the exact bike you plan to take so you can adjust the saddle and fit.
-
If you are new to your tent/shelter/sleep system, practice setting these up before the tour.
-
Best practice is to be "packed" 1 week before departure, so that test rides can occur
-
Load your panniers or racks with gear and practice riding with the extra weight.
-
Find hills on your training routes to get used to hauling weight uphill
Comfort and Nutrition
-
Spend hours in the saddle to prevent chafing and saddle sores.
-
Eat and drink while riding so you know what works for your stomach on long days.
-
If possible, do core and strength workouts 2 to 3 times a week to support your back and arms
